Aprender ingles con peliculas y series

Muchos estudiantes de inglés desean aprender inglés a través de películas y series. Por eso, he decidido escribir a continuación algunos consejos al respecto.

En primer lugar, hay que diferenciar el inglés hablado en las películas y series con el inglés que estudiamos en una academia o instituto. En general, los personajes utilizan un inglés mucho más informal y con expresiones "de la calle" (idioms). Además, hablan rápido y acortando las palabras, por lo cual para un estudiante de inglés será bastante difícil de seguir. Deberás tener en cuenta también que la mayoría de las series y películas son norteamericanas, y hablan por lo tanto, en inglés americano.

Una posible alternativa para comprender mejor los diálogos es mirar las películas y series con los subtítulos en inglés. Todos los DVDs tienen la opción de activar estos subtítulos o bien, ofrecen la posibilidad de mostrar los diálogos en "closed caption" (esta función es inicialmente para las personas no oyentes, pero también de utilidad para estudiantes de inglés).

Primero, deberías mirar sin subtítulos para ver cuánto entiendes. Luego, volver a mirar la misma secuencia con subtítulos; si no conoces alguna palabra, deberías buscarla en un diccionario y luego anotar la palabra y el significado en un cuaderno o libro de apuntes. Finalmente, mira la misma secuencia por tercera vez para terminar de comprender las escenas y asimilar el vocabulario nuevo. Por eso, según el nivel de inglés que poseas, es conveniente mirar entre 15 y 20 minutos por día solamente, con un máximo de 30, para no saturarse ni aburrirse (ya que deberás mirarlo al menos tres veces).

Por último, ¡a no decepcionarse! Siempre habrá palabras que no entiendas, ¡no te preocupes! Sigue adelante, ya las aprenderás en otro momento.

Leer las noticias en inglés

En Internet pueden encontrarse muchísimas páginas escritas en inglés, que sin duda pueden resultar útiles para aprender o practicar. Pero existen algunas que seguramente servirán para este objetivo.

La cadena de noticias BBC publica en su sitio las noticias de todo el mundo. ¡Anímate! Elige un artículo que te llame la atención e intenta leerlo y comprenderlo.

La otra cadena famosa, CNN, también permite leer noticias mundiales. En este caso, puedes practicar inglés americano.

Utiliza el buscador de cada uno de estos sitios web para buscar una noticia referida a un tema o a tu propio país. Siempre es mejor leer algo que te motive, ya que lo leerás con mayor atención. Intenta realizar esta actividad con cierta frecuencia, y mejorarás bastante tu comprensión del inglés.

Los periódicos online son otro recurso de gran utilidad. Si lo deseas, puedes acceder aquí a una lista de periódicos de Inglaterra y de Estados Unidos.

Cuentos en inglés

Es sabido que la lectura es fundamental para aprender un nuevo idioma. Pues entonces, para practicar tu inglés te proponemos que leas estos cuentos en inglés. Se trata de "short stories", es decir, cuentos cortos, fáciles de entender y donde puedes aprender nuevas palabras y expresiones.

La ventaja es que las palabras difíciles se encuentran marcadas en azul y puede verse la traducción pasando el mouse/ratón sobre ellas. Al final del cuento también se encuentra toda la lista de palabras difíciles con la traducción.

Y si aún encuentras alguna dificultad, puedes hacer doble click sobre una palabra para buscarla en el diccionario.

Es un recurso muy práctico y ameno. No dejes de echarle un vistazo. Puedes acceder desde aquí: Cuentos en inglés.

Practica inglés con series o películas en DVD

Con la ayuda de la tecnología del DVD, es posible mirar series de TV o películas en idioma original, y a su vez elegir el idioma de los subtítulos. Esta característica es de gran ayuda para el aprendizaje de lenguas.

Por eso, recomendamos que dediques un tiempo a ver tu serie o película favorita con subtítulos en inglés. De esta manera, podrás practicar "listening comprehension" (comprensión auditiva) y aprenderás nuevas palabras y expresiones del inglés que se habla en la calle.

Lo ideal es dedicar de 20 a 30 minutos por día. Por lo tanto, las series o sitcoms resultan más adecuadas para esta tarea.

Sugerencias:

Busca una serie que ya hayas visto. Así, ya conocerás la trama y será más fácil seguir los diálogos.
Selecciona en el reproductor de DVD el audio en inglés y los subtítulos en inglés. A veces es necesario ir al menú del DVD para elegir las opciones.
Lee y escucha con atención las conversaciones. Presta atención a la pronunciación y al acento de las diferentes personas.
No intentes entender absolutamente todas las palabras que se dicen. Sólo debes acostumbrar al oído a escuchar inglés mientras lees los subtítulos.
Si aparece alguna palabra o expresión que te parece interesante o te llama la atención, toma nota y luego búscala en un diccionario para aprender más.

Aquellos estudiantes más avanzados (o más audaces) pueden intentar directamente apagar los subtítulos. Al principio resultará difícil, pero cuando el oído se acostumbre, comenzarás a entender cada vez más.

Esta herramienta permite incorporar nuevo vocabulario y practicar la comprensión auditiva, siendo por lo tanto de gran ayuda para estudiantes de inglés principiantes e intermedios.

Flashcards para aprender vocabulario

Aprender un idioma extranjero requiere de una buena memoria para recordar infinidad de palabras nuevas. Entre los métodos más utilizados en la enseñanza de idiomas se encuentran las flashcards o fichas de aprendizaje.

En general, las fichas pueden usarse para cualquier materia de estudio, pero en el caso de idiomas se emplean para aprender o practicar nuevas palabras. Se toma una ficha y se escribe la palabra en el idioma que se está aprendiendo. Luego, en el reverso se escribe la traducción al idioma nativo, o bien, puede hacerse un dibujo que identifique a dicha palabra.

A la hora de estudiar, se van pasando las fichas una por una mirando primero el lado donde está el dibujo o la traducción. Inmediatamente se debe tratar de recordar cómo se dice esa palabra en el idioma original. Si se acierta, se deposita la ficha en una pila aparte. En caso contrario se coloca detrás del mazo de fichas, para que vuelva a aparecer.

Pues en el siguiente link podrás encontrar la "versión electrónica" de estas fichas, para aprender vocabulario básico de inglés por temas. En cada ficha aparece la imagen y el nombre del objeto. Puedes ir pasando las fichas y aprender las palabras. Luego, puedes practicar en forma oral o escrita para comprobar cuánto recuerdas.

Cómo mejorar fácilmente tu inglés escrito

A la hora de escribir un ensayo o una composición los estudiantes de inglés (y a veces los nativos también) carecen de un rico vocabulario para poder expresarse correctamente.

Es muy común que los escritos contengan palabras como "walk", "look", "talk", "laugh" cuando en realidad existe una gran cantidad de verbos descriptivos que ayudan a reforzar la idea. Veamos algunos ejemplos.

En lugar de escribir "We walked through the park", se podría utilizar "We strolled through the park", que confirma la acción de caminar pero le da el sentido de "caminar por placer, pasear".

"As his wife was sleeping, he walked into the bedroom in silence." Esta oración es totalmente correcta, pero podemos otorgarle un nivel superior si escribimos "As his wife was sleeping, he tiptoed into the bedroom", que significa "caminar en puntas de pie, para no hacer ruido".

El verbo "to look" es uno de los más utilizados cotidianamente. Pero para describir correctamente el sentido en que se mira u observa algo, existen otros verbos más específicos. "Laura gazed at him in disbelief when he told her the news", implica que Laura lo miró detenidamente y seguro puso cara de sorpresa cuando él le dio las noticias. " Si dijéramos "She gaped at him", implica que ella lo miró con la boca abierta. O si dijéramos "She glared at him", significa que le dio una mirada feroz o llena de odio.

De la misma manera, "Sue told me the secret word" podría mejorarse con "Sue whispered the secret word in my ear", dando la idea de que Sue lo dijo en voz baja, para que otros no escuchen.

"Stop rambling and get to the point, please!" es sin dudas una mejor forma de expresar la idea de hablar demasiado, que la frase "Stop talking and get to the point, please!"

Reir se dice "to laugh". Pero existen diferentes formas de reirse: a carcajadas, en silencio, de forma nerviosa, repetidamente o en forma avergonzada. La próxima vez que debas utilizar el verbo "to laugh" piensa en el tipo de risa al cual deseas hacer referencia, y utiliza el verbo correspondiente. "What are you chuckling about? I don't see anything funny." En este caso, bien se podría haber recurrido al verbo "to laugh" pero se reemplazó por "to chuckle" que significa reirse en voz baja o en silencio porque uno recuerda o imagina algo divertido.

Como vemos, todos estos matices, que en español se expresan mediante adverbios, en inglés son representados directamente con verbos descriptivos. Por lo tanto, resulta importante aprender el uso de los mismos para aumentar considerablemente nuestro nivel de inglés.
